My Mom always has worked especially hard to make holidays and birthdays a big deal, even on a limited budget. With my kids, I view birthdays as a special chance to highlight my children as individuals and be in the limelight, emphasizing things that they love in particular.
When Rachel was born, Justin insisted on calling her “Sis”. I clearly remember him writing (or attempting to) write Sis on the whiteboard in the hospital room. That name stuck for quite a while as seen on this cake for her 2nd birthday.
Hannah wanted to have a rainforest theme at our local skating rink for her birthday. We were able to reserve a larger room to use for the entire event and used tri-boards to create portable decorations.
I have a picture from one of my birthday parties where my Mom made a clown piñata from paper mache and crepe paper. With that inspiration, I was able to construct a Pokeball piñata for Justin’s Pokemon party.
